National CASA/GAL Book Club: “Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive”

March 3, 2022 @ 8:00 am - April 11, 2022 @ 5:00 pm

Poverty is a common thread across the lives of the children and families involved in the child welfare system. Its impact can have deep and long lasting impact and consequences. In most states, neglect cannot be established if failure to provide for a child’s needs is due only to poverty. Poverty may still contribute to neglect indirectly. For example, a poor family may lack necessary resources to buffer other risks. Poverty is seen as a significant obstacle for families involved with the child welfare system.

The second reading in the series is Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive by Stephanie Land.
