Community Training: The Importance of Sibling Bonds

December 6, 2022 @ 5:30 pm - December 13, 2022 @ 9:00 pm

The Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition is offering two upcoming opportunities to attend this training. The training itself is 7 hours, split between two dates.  This first opportunity will be on Tuesdays, December 6th and December 13th from 5:30PM to 9:00PM.

Sibling relationships are emotionally powerful and critically important not only in childhood, but over the course of a lifetime.  The sibling relationship is one of the longest relationships anyone will have, preparing individuals for peer relationships, teaching social skills, conflict resolution, and navigating relationship issues. They provide a sense of connection, continuity, and belonging.  Children who enter foster care are often separated from siblings for a variety of reasons, but ongoing efforts should be made by the child’s team to ensure that placement together can happen.

This training will provide information about the importance of the sibling bond in our personal lives and the lives of others, myths and facts about the separation of siblings, the benefits of placing children together, and the importance of preserving the connections that children in care have with their siblings.

Course Time: 7 hours training credit

Audience:  Foster Parents, Child Welfare Professionals, Volunteers and Professionals Connected to Child Welfare or Foster Family Support (CASA, GAL, DJO, Transportation Provider, Visitation Designee)
