2022 Show Me a Helping Hand Conference

The Missouri Department of Social Services, sponsored by the Missouri Children’s Social Justice Act Task Force is hosting their annual free conference, Show Me a Helping Hand, November 3rd-4th, 2022 at Lincoln University Richardson Fine Arts Center in Jefferson City. Sessions begin at 8:30AM, both days. Presenters include:

GREG HOLTMEYER: Striking Out with Child Safety
In this presentation we will explore the headlines, prevalence, how to stop sexual abuse, what to look for, and how to report it.

SETH ELLIOT: Building Resilience: Surviving Secondary Trauma
This training addresses First Responders and civilian secondary trauma, including challenges and barriers they face, alternatives to unhealthy coping, and a review of techniques to more effectively cope with the trauma we experience.

ERIC BARRERAS: Survivor Testimony: My Story Behind the Story
As a result of his personal experiences and trauma with abuse, Eric helps other victims/survivors through criminal investigations, victim advocacy and prevention education.

SHIMA ROSTAMI: Men and Boys: Invisible Victims of Sex Trafficking
Human trafficking can happen to anyone – including men and boys. However, the lack of awareness among community members makes the already vulnerable people even more vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation.

BRAD WATSON: Prey: The Secret that Almost Killed Me
As a survivor, Brad’s extensive first-hand experience with childhood sexual abuse and subsequent addictions to drugs and alcohol have allowed him to act as a trusted resource and mentor for many adults struggling to cope with the lasting impacts of their trauma.

RUSS TUTTLE: The Stop Trafficking Project®
Discuss the role that online life plays in exploiting vulnerabilities in tweens and teens in order to END it BEFORE it STARTS™ (The Big Idea).

DR. TERRA FRAZIER: Show Me Injuries to be Concerned About and What to do With Them.
In this session, learn how to recognize injuries as a result of physical abuse and discuss the MO health systems and how to access the most appropriate medical care for child maltreatment.

KELBE MCGILL: Intersections of Mental Health & Substance Use
Co-occurring mental health and substance misuse struggles influence the recovery and healing process. This session aims to provide context, open dialogue and dive into the journey of hurt & healing.
